Gender & Diversity Workshop (Dr. Lisa K. Horvath): Bias Management for doctoral researchers

IRTG Workshops SFB 1116 Gender & Diversity SFB1116 Seminars

How do we want to work together? Managing Biases for Doctoral Students

Unconscious biases and stereotypes go hand in hand with prejudice and discrimination when people work together. Especially in intercultural and interdisciplinary research groups, unconscious biases as well as intercultural differences can be crucial barriers for effective communication and scientific cooperation. In order to facilitate successful research processes, scientists have to manage the differences as resources, and to recognize and build on the similarities. In this workshop, we focus on how consequences of unconscious biases and discrimination can be reduced or even avoided. Furthermore, the participants are invited to transfer the provided knowledge on bias management, anti-discrimination and intercultural communication into guidelines on how they want to work together in several contexts.
