Second doctoral student successfully defended dissertation

The International Resarch Training Group (IRTG 1902) congratulates the first IRTG 1902 student from the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf for successfully defending her doctoral thesis entiteled

"Modifikationen und Interaktionen des Transkriptionsfaktors Grainyhead-like 3 im kardiovaskulären System"

Stefanie Kohlgrüber finished her dissertation in the lab of PD Dr. Yogi Altschmied (IUF – Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine) on October 26th 2016.

1st International Symposium „Master switches after myocardial infarction“

The Comprehensive Research Center (CRC, SFB) 1116 held its first International Symposium “Master switches after myocardial infarction” at the Heinrich Heine University from July 1st-3rd 2016.

International guests like Manuel Mayr (King’s College, London), Nikolaos Frangogiannis (Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York), Matthias Nahrendorf (Harvard Medical School, Boston) and Patrick Schrauwen (Maastricht University, Maastricht) enriched this meeting with outstanding talks in the field of myocardial infarction.

Successful 1st Symposium "Methods in Cardiovascular Research"

This spring, the IRTG1902 and the GRK SFB 1116 had a symposium on "Methods in Cardiovasular Research" from April 18th  - 19th at the Kardinal Schulte Haus in Bensberg.

Our PhD and MD students presented in their talks specific methods which they established in their research projects. 

As a special invited guest - Jun. Prof. Dr. Philipp Sasse from the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelms Universität Bonn gave a talk about Exciting light: Optogenetic control of mycardial function.

The symposium helped the students to get to know the core methods of the different research projects in the Collaborative Research Center 1116 and the International Research Training Group and enables them to network successfully trough their PhD/MD program.

We like to thank all participants for their excellent talks and making this symposium a great success!

Lucia Leitner and Mirjam Pfeffer win Poster Award on the 95th Annual Meeting of the German Physiological Society

The International Research Training Group (IRTG 1902) congratulates Lucia Leitner and Mirjam Pfeffer (Department of Cardiovascular Physiology) for the Poster Award at the 95th Annual Meeting of the German Physiological Society, March 2016.

Lucia Leitner presented a poster about her project "Interorgan Communication between Heart and Skeletal Muscle"

Mirjam Pfeffer presented a poster about her project "Alterations in gene expression levels due to heart failure in cardiac p38 MAPKinase KO"

First sucessful Exchange with Molly Kelly-Goss from the UVA

The International Research Training Group 1902 (IRTG1902) welcomes Molly Kelly-Goss to the Heinrich-Heine-University. During her time from February til April 2016 at the Lammert Lab she learned how to use in vivo and in vitro experimental techniques and got the chance to work with cell culture systems, they are not using in the US.

Guang Yang wins Onsite Trainee Poster Award on the Hypertension 2015 Scientific Sessions in Washington

The International Resarch Training Group (IRTG 1902) congratulates Guang Yang (Department of Internal Medicine/Nephrology) for the Onsite Trainee Poster Award at the Council on Hypertension 2015 Scientific Session in Washington, September 2015.

He presented a poster about his project "Deletion of the Mas Receptor Aggravates the Development of Atheroslerosis and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in Apolipoprotein E-Deficient Mice".

Successful Collaboration with the UVA

Nenja Krüger, Exchange Student at the UVA: „I am really glad that I got the opportunity to come to UVA for this great collaboration and the Isakson lab has welcomed me with open arms.  The techniques I am learning here are state of the art and will help the progression of my PhD project. Furthermore, our partnership is not one-sided as I have been able to assist with the development of several new methods in the Isakson lab. It really is a fruitful exchange of scientific knowledge from both sides.”

Successful Network Meeting of IRTG 1816 & 1902 in Wernigerode

Network meeting IRTG 1816 and IRTG 1902

Initiated by the  PhD students of both International Research Training Groups a network meeting of the two thematically related training groups, funded by the DFG, has been organized in Wernigerode from September 6th - 8th 2015!

The IRTG 1816 "Phosphorylation and redox mediated signalling in the failing heart" (University Göttingen) and its international exchange partner King´s College London and the IRTG 1902 "Intra- and Interorgan Communication of the Cardiovascular System" (HHU Düsseldorf) and its international exchange partner the Cardiovascular Research Center of the University of Virginia are interested in the cardiovascular system.

PhD students from London, Göttingen and Düsseldorf presented their work in oral and poster presentations. The two keynote lectures were given by Prof. Ajay M. Shah (Kings´s College London) and Prof. Norbert Leitinger (University of Virginia, Charottesville).

We like to thank all participants for this interesting and successful meeting!

Nicole Görldt wins 2nd Place at the Poster Award of Purines 2015

The International Resarch Training Group (IRTG 1902) congratulates Nicole Görldt from the Department of Molecular Cardiology for the 2nd Place at the Poster Award on the "International Conference on Purinergic Signalling" in Hamburg at the 25th of July in 2015

She presented a Poster about her Project " Stimulation of the A2A and the A2B adenosine receptors modulates CD4+ T cell activity in vitro ".
